The Pets Bring Joy (PBJ) Mission Statement:

Pets Bring Joy's mission is to provide safe harbor for at-risk homeless animals in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area (Northern Virginia/Suburban Maryland/D.C.) by establishing and supporting a foster community to care for them until loving permanent homes can be found ... we do so by:
  • Rescuing friendly, adoptable pets from "kill" shelters or as strays, emphasizing overlooked (injured and/or older animals), and placing them in qualified foster homes;

  • Providing funding for veterinary expenses and supplies while in foster care;

  • Overseeing the adoption process to ensure their placement in loving "forever" homes;

  • Educating fosters, adopters, and the public at large on the plight of homeless animals -- especially the importance of spaying/neutering pets;

  • Mentoring small/start-up rescues with regard to best practices in doing the same;

  • Encouraging collaboration within the local rescue community so that our combined efforts as rescues achieve greater results than any one of us might achieve single-handedly.
